UJI AKTIVITAS EKSTRAK Chondrus sp SEBAGAI ANTIBAKTERI Escherichia coli
Abstract
Escherichia coli is a bacterium that causes diarrheal diseases or gastrointestinal infections in humans that often occur in various geographies of the world. One of the treatments of bacterial infections is the use of antibiotics. Antibiotics can stop the growth or kill the bacteria that cause the infection. Bacterial resistance to antibiotics is a problem that can occur due to the unwise and rational use of antibiotics. The purpose of this study was to analyze the antibacterial activity of 96% ethanol extract of Chondrus sp. against the growth of Escherichia coli, which is one of the causes of diarrhea. Antibacterial testing of Chondrus sp. ethanol extract begins with the MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) Test through the agar dilution method and antibacterial test using the Disc Diffusion method by measuring the Width of Inhibition. MIC test of Chondrus sp. ethanol extract with concentrations of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50%. Meanwhile, the Inhibitory Power Width Test was carried out on concentrations of 50%, 60%, and 70%. Control negatif using sterile aqueous and positive control using Amoxicillin 10 mg/L. The results of the antibacterial test at a concentration of 70% showed the greatest activity, namely 8.25 mm in inhibiting the growth of Escherichia coli compared to other concentrations. The results showed that Chondrus sp. extract has secondary metabolites that can inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria. MIC test of 96% ethanol extract of Chondrus sp. against the growth of Escherichia coli is at a concentration of 50%. Meanwhile, the results of antibacterial tests at a concentration of 70% showed the greatest activity in inhibiting the growth of Escherichia coli compared.
